Three Cheers for Democracy!

"That government is best which governs least, because its people govern themselves."
- Thomas Jefferson

I agree with the above statement 99%. I think that it is absolutely necessary for people to have a say in the government, because if they don't, who knows what might happen? The world might be full of protests, assassinations, rebels, and a bunch of other things that we could definitely do without.

But, we shouldn't have too much say in the government. For example, if we had a say in the government, we might make the drinking age 10 years old! Imagine the utter chaos this world would be in if that happened!

But, I don't like the current government in America either. (I know I'm picky, but what can I do about it?) I don’t like having presidents be in charge of so much. Sure, the Senate and House of Representatives, have power too, but the president can veto anything! The president decides whether we go to war! We shouldn't have that kind of power given to one person! Especially because almost half of the county probably wanted that kind of power to go to another candidate!

So, in a nutshell, Thomas Jefferson is right. The people should govern themselves. Wasn't that why the Revolutionary War started in the first place - So that the people couldn't govern themselves? We have come a long way since then, but there is always room for improvement. God Bless America!
